Along the eyelids are small glands, Meibomian Glands, which produce oil that sits on the surface of the tear film. This oil reduces evaporation of the tears and stabilises the tear film. If the glands are not functioning normally or there’s not enough tears then drying occurs to the surface of the eye, the cornea, and the result is discomfort.
